This section is a chronological listing of noteworthy or historically significant comics printed since 1897. The comic book timeline is essentially broken down into various "ages." Starting with the earliest, they are the Platinum Age (1897-1932); pre-Golden Age (1933-May 1938: prior to Superman's appearance in Action #1); Golden Age (June 1938-1945); Atom (Atomic) Age (1946-Aug 1956: prior to the Flash's re-emergence in Showcase #4); Silver Age (Sept 1956-1969); Bronze Age (1970-1979); Modern Age (1980-present).
